Javier López Gallery opened in London in June 1995 with a contemporary programme including the X Art Foundation, Martin Creed, Simon Martin and Thomas Ruff. In February 1996 the gallery moved to Madrid, where its aim has been to offer a programme that alternates between presentations of new works by gallery artists and by other more established artists, providing a complementary vision of the global art community. The Gallery has collaborated since 1992 with Sandra Gering, whose career as a gallery owner goes back to 1991. As the result of this collaboration, in September 2006 Gering & López was founded in New York, thus consolidating the programs and proposals of both galleries. Galería Javier López and Gering & López Gallery participate together in international art fairs. In October 2009, Javier López began working with Mário Sequeira from Portugal, both with long careers as a gallery owner, collaborating in different exhibitions - such as Nan Goldin, Alex Katz or Jason Martin shows - and participating together in the international fair of contemporary art ARCO with a shared booth. In Autumn 2010 a large new leading space was opened in Madrid where is hosted a dynamic programme of artists, both emerging and acclaimed, who make outstanding and innovative work immersed in the latest trends in contemporary art, whose development and production are open to all cutting‐edge technology and materials in every medium.
